Apples, oh so sweet!

Yum

APPLE PICKING TIME: Updated September 20th, 2018, starting with my most ridiculously, embarrassingly simplest yet most popular apple recipe of all…my Simply Cinnamon Apples! As one of you so beautifully said just a few days ago:

“How can something so simple be so delicious? This was perfect!!!!”

Thank you Francine, I couldn’t agree more!

My personal favorite (I love it so much that I make it on the spur of the moment all the time, all year round!) is….(scroll down, I’ll tell you at the end!)

Apples are so sweet in all the ways that warm the heart! Apples feel like home to me! They conjure up autumn days and memories of our family’s apple picking tradition at our local orchard every year. As I have shared with you before, I remember the kids (and David!) triumphantly dragging back their bags filled to the rim with apples (with David always winning the DUAP (we pronounce it dew-wap, if you must know!) prize, otherwise known as the Katz Dysfunctional-Unrestrained-Apple-Picking prize! It never fails–in the fall, our house gets filled with a “ton” of apples from every variety! That is one of the reasons I have found so many ways to create recipes around them over the years!

APPLE_PICKING

Of course, that’s not the only reason I have incorporated apples in my recipes. On the culinary side, I love apples in my cooking and baking because their sweet tartness can add as much to a savory dish as to a sweet dessert. On the nutrition side, apples, like all fruit, are so good for one’s health. So, as much as you’ll love my apple recipes (but of course–to be said with an indignant French accent!!!), remember to also munch on one in its plain wholesome simple state: Eating apples raw, with the skin on, can significantly lower many of our blood fats and, you know what they say… “An apple a day keeps the doctor away!”

Everyone in my family LOVES apples….and I mean EVERYONE!!…take a look at Barli when she was a puppy:

This week, I offer my apple recipes, from yummy soups, to salads, to entrées, to smoothies and…to desserts of RED APPLE Mediumcourse, lots of them!!

I will start with my latest recipes, which tend to be vegan and work back to some non-vegan ones that we have enjoyed for as far back as I can remember (way before I even called them “Cuisinicity recipes”… at least 25 years or more!)

So, here we go, click on any of the images to get to the recipe! Some of them even have an accompanying little video clip of me making it in my kitchen, in all the glory of my clutsy ways….

I make them all year round…

No matter what, get picking…and get cooking!!

Dearest Arlene, I am sure the soup will freeze beautifully, I am not so sure of the simply apples, because I always ate them up before I had a chance to freeze, HAHAHA!! 🙂

    Dear Catherine

    Apple-tree, apple-tree, crowned with delight,
Give me your fruit for a pie if you will;—
Crusty I’ll make it, and juicy and light!—
Give me your treasure to mate with my skill!

This poem is quite a treasure as it it reverberates with your passion and skill!

Hello from the Apple CAPITAL of the WORLD, Wenatchee, WA. I just found your blog via listing to your husband’s talk on the Alzheimers Awareness online lectures. I was THRILLED to hear that your eating pattern mimics what I have felt is the healthiest. I’ve been frustrated to hear the no oil extreme to the paleo way. Plant based with some fish, chocolate occasionally is how I feel best. I am so thankful that you are sharing the recipes and all your wealth of knowledge with the world. I have a background in health, but was discouraged with the promotion of meat and dairy that continues in teaching, so I am on my ‘sabbatical” finding what science is new and functional for lifestyle to help my family and those around me. Thanks again. Blessings.

Thank you so much Laura! What a wonderful note! I am DELIGHTED that it resonates with you. 🙂 I also completely understand your frustration with the teaching and I am hopeful that it’s changing slowly not only in the nutrition world but also in the culinary world as well. I am so encouraged by that! I did a little post about it here: https://cuisinicity.com/cuisinicity-video-food-medicine-food-love/ Anyway, a BIG WELCOME to the Cuisinicity table, I am so happy to have you here!!

My dog loves apples, too! He and my husband used to go apple picking when we lived in Virginia and shared lots of apples as they picked. And when I cut an apple every morning for my oatmeal he waits at my feet for pieces to fall.

Catherine, I love your wholesome and delicious recipes! I’m eating more vegan dishes for health reasons. I especially like how your recipes are low in sugar, and many don’t add additional sugar.
My 16-year old Chihuahua, Case, also eats raw apples. He’s a watermelon eater also.
Thank you for sharing your recipes and knowledge with us. We adore you!

Thank you Joella for such a lovely wonderful comment! <3 I really try to go as low as I can with the added sugar, it's amazing how much one can cut down in desserts and even more so in avoiding processed foods with hidden sugar.

AWWWW CUUUTIE your Chihuahua, no wonder he is so healthy! All 3 of my dogs LOVE watermelon too! As for apples, only my Barli enjoys them!! So good for them!! 🙂

My dad LOVES the Simply Cinnamon Apples! A great recipe, as you once recommended, for elder people with sensitive or failing teeth. I’m going to try the Apple Butternut Squash Soup this week and I can’t wait to see his response. Yummy yummy!
