Cinnamon is definitely a spice to keep in your pantry as it confers great health benefits (You can read more about it here) and of course we all know about having that apple a day….what a combination and OH MY GOODNESS-what a satisfying autumn treat!

I’ve just had this for breakfast….MMMMMmmmm!!! I’m into smoothies big-time anyway but this made a nice change from my more usual ones. Thank you, Catherine! Also, I’ve been obsessing all night about your chestnut butter (the recipe for which I happened across yesterday) so I think I might have to try that today, too!
Slightly off topic (sorry, but I just wanted to say!), I’ve just finished your husbands EXCELLENT book, ‘The Truth About Food’…I found it extremely enlightening and just SO sensible (particularly the idea that it’s only humans (of all the planet’s many species) who are so confused and confounded by what’s ‘good’ for one and what isn’t, largely due to the advent (pun intended, given the date today!!!) of science. That REALLY made me think again about our attitude to ‘healthy eating’! I also found his comments on how to sift the wheat from the chaff when it comes to all the information on the internet about THE best diet for health – up until I read the book I was just SO confused: one minute I’d read that ‘x’ was the very devil and to be avoided at all costs, the next minute, and on a different site, I’d read exactly the opposite (ie. you MUST eat ‘x’ if you want to achieve ultimate health!!! (whatever that is anyway!) I still do feel very confused (not least because, (probably not surprisingly!), shortly after finishing the book, I came upon yet another site which attacked your husband and made HIM out to be a charlatan and whatnot – my immediate reaction was to question even HIS ‘authority’ but, once I’d come to my senses again, I realised that, actually, having read his book, what he says is by FAR the most sensible and logical explanation of the whole subject of food: maybe he IS right, maybe he’s not, or maybe a bit of both – but I’m choosing to go with his opinions over those of others, until he is proven wrong (which, I feel, is unlikely to happen!) Sorry that’s all a bit long-winded but I just wanted to say thank you/him!
Thank you, Monika, for your lovely review of my apple smoothie! I am so glad you loved it so much! I am not sure what chestnut butter recipe you are referring to?
I am so glad to hear that you found my husband’s book “the Truth about Food” so helpful. It is the result of 30 some years of his work (and our life) that he has devoted to the field of nutrition and prevention of chronic disease and to spreading the truth about diet and health. He is not alone in his views (see: the True Health Initiative https://www.truehealthinitiative.org/about_us/). My husband has spent his life, with me by his side, working to improve public health (and that of our planet) and tirelessly fighting against the semi-confusion willingly propagated by the food industry. This has cost him (us) dearly, resulting in enemies and trolls who try to stain his name. It always makes me sad to hear, but it also makes me that much more proud of my husband for keeping on keeping on, nonetheless! Thank you for knowing better, it does give me comfort to know that!
RE. your husband’s (and your!) work, I’ll keep it brief (there’s SO much I’d LIKE to say on the matter but this is not the forum for such matters and I don’t want to clog up your blog with non recipe-related comments!) BUT, I just want to say that he most certainly has MY vote in the ‘Who is to be believed?’ stakes – yes, it must be very difficult when others are casting aspersions at him (even though he’s clearly doing SO much good in the world – makes no sense to me! But, then, neither does life generally!) but at least you CAN rest assured in the knowledge that what he is doing is to be applauded, not criticised, but he IS only human and can only do what a human is capable of doing! I do hope that, eventually, more and more people will start to listen to people like him, rather than the dogma of many of the other ‘nutrition experts’ out there who are either completely blinded to the truth by their own narrow-mindedness or, worse, who are out for personal gain! I shall most certainly be recommending his book to friends and family!
Re. the chestnut butter – that’s just bizarre! I could have SWORN I saw it on your blog, and I remember clearly reading that ‘you’ added a touch of maple syrup and stated that ‘your’ favourite way to eat it was on sourdough bread! But not only can I now not find it on here, I can’t find it anywhere else, either, so I can only conclude that I must have dreamt it! Please accept my apologies for the confusion, I don’t know what all that was about! Anyway, I DO still love the apple smoothie and have had it again this morning!!!! 😉 🙂
PS Please don’t worry about replying, I’m sure you have better things to do (!!) – I simply wanted to say very well done to you both for all the good work you’re doing.
Yum. I am amazed that there appears to be no end to smoothie recipes.
Haha that’s for sure Rosie!!! 🙂
Thanks for this! The richness in flavor was well worth the slightly extra trouble of sauteing the apples.
I want to learn more about healthy, clean eating.
JoAnne, I am so happy to hear! This is a good place to start! Welcome!
