Hi.
What is kefir? I’ve never seen it in South Africa so can you recommend any substitutes?
Thanks,
Brenda.
Hi Brenda!
Kefir is a cultured milk product with a thinner consistency than yogurt and a slightly tart taste like buttermilk. It is made either with kefir grains or a powdered kefir starter — the grains aren’t an actual grain like wheat, but are made of bacteria and yeast. If you can’t find Kefir, I would use either a very thin plain yogurt or buttermilk to replace it. I hope this is helpful! Enjoy!
The recipe calls for:
½ fresh orange juice
What exactly is that? A half cup of fresh orange juice? Or a half of an orange juiced? (The juice of half an orange.) Could be a significant difference depending on the size of the orange.
Oh my goodness Syd, thank you for catching that mistake! I just fixed it– I meant 1/2 cup fresh orange juice, which, depending on how juicy the orange is, can be one large orange. Thank you again for bringing that to my attention!
I appreciate that you have made these smoothie recipes for one serving. Many other sites where I find smoothie recipes they are written for multiple servings and usually that is not what I need.
That’s so nice of you to note that, R.A., thank you!
